Living in a rural town offers you the opportunity to know your neighbors, and your customers, really well. Sherri Kinney, the Assistant Vice President and Assistant Branch Manager at the Lincoln Federal Savings Bank in Blair, Nebraska, sees it as a wonderful employee benefit.
Sherri first came to work at Lincoln Federal Savings Bank at a time in her life when her four children were young and she was working in a very stressful job. She responded to a part time position advertised by the bank, and 14 years later, she feels it was the best career move for her and her family. That first job was as a customer service representative. Her previous work experience in sales was beneficial as she had a talent for engaging with customers through conversation. "Talking to our customers and hearing their personal stories is my favorite part of the job," says Sherri. "Living in Blair I've gotten to know a lot of people, so I've seen families' kids grow up, I know what's happening with them and they know about my family. I'm always running into someone outside of work, too. Blair is a great community."
Over the years, Lincoln Federal recognized Sherri's potential and continued to give her more responsibilities. If you ask her what a typical day at the bank looks like, she feels no two days are alike. She does everything from filling in as a customer service representative, and opening IRA accounts, and checking and savings accounts to helping customers with issues, mailing out birthday cards to customers, and ordering supplies.
Being part of the Lincoln Federal "family" is very important to Sherri because she feels they truly care about their employees, as well as their customers. If the staff in Blair needs assistance or has questions, she knows the teams at other branches are available."I feel very lucky that Lincoln Federal has believed in me over the past 14 years. I've grown from an entry-level position and advanced to where I am today because they trusted me to keep doing great things. Their support has given me more confidence in myself. I'm comfortable in my job and very happy working here."
Lincoln Federal is involved in the Blair community as well, supporting various events and organizations such as working with Habitat for Humanity, contributing to the local 4-H club, and volunteering at Gateway to the West Days annual event.
Sherri moved to Blair in 1996. She and her husband live on an acreage, and have four children ranging in age from 33 to 17 years, and two grandchildren. Two of the four children live in Lincoln and Omaha, and the other two are at home. She enjoys having her family nearby. Sherri enjoys binge watching Netflix shows, reading great books, and being outdoors in the warm sunshine.
"I really like the people that I work with because we are all friends and count on each other. Every day I come to work knowing that I will have the opportunity to help our customers with their banking needs."
